LINDBERG frames: a tortoiseshell round frame and a dark square frame

LINDBERG Eyewear in New York & Scarsdale

LINDBERG is a Danish eyewear brand built around a single idea from 1986: a hinge formed from one coil of titanium, with no screws to loosen. The frames that grew from it weigh very little and carry almost no logo.

You can try LINDBERG at both Eye Q offices, in Manhattan and Scarsdale. Our optical team will take your measurements, look at your prescription and help you find the shape, size and color that suit your face.

Danish Design Since 1986

The story begins in 1969, when optometrist Poul-Jørn Lindberg opened an optical shop in Aarhus, Denmark. Wanting something lighter than the heavy frames of the day, he worked with his son Henrik, an architect, on an alternative. It went on sale in 1986: a rimless frame of titanium wire, joined by a coiled hinge instead of screws.

That hinge is still the brand's signature. Titanium does the rest: it is lighter than steel, stronger than aluminum and does not corrode. Forty years on, LINDBERG has collected more than 100 international design awards.

Lightweight Titanium Frames

Glasses rest on two small points, the bridge of the nose and the tops of the ears, and by evening a heavy pair makes itself known. LINDBERG takes weight out wherever it can: fine titanium wire, no screws and, in the rimless styles, no rim at all. There, the lenses are held by the bridge and temples alone.

A strong prescription adds weight of its own. Ask us about high-index lenses, which are thinner and lighter, so the finished pair stays as light as the frame.

Choosing Your Frame at Eye Q

We choose the designer brands we carry for how their frames are made and how they wear. At your visit we take measurements, review your prescription and ask how your glasses spend the day: at a screen, behind the wheel, over a book.

Then we bring you frames to try, and help you narrow them down to the pair that looks most like you.

Understated by Design

A LINDBERG frame has no large logo and very little that is purely decorative. People who wear them tend to want glasses that look well made without announcing a name.

They suit anyone who wears glasses from morning to night, and anyone drawn to rimless or fine-wire frames. Titanium is also hypoallergenic for most people, which is worth knowing if metal frames have bothered your skin before.

The LINDBERG Collections

LINDBERG sorts its frames by how they are made. Rimless titanium styles hold drilled lenses with nothing around the edge, while Air titanium rim frames circle each lens in fine titanium wire. Acetanium pairs an acetate front, for color and a fuller line, with titanium temples; n.o.w. titanium does the same with a light composite front. The Precious collection works in solid gold and other fine materials.

What we have on hand changes through the year, so if a particular collection interests you, mention it when you book.
